As it turns out, this series of plot twists was all about trying to get to a birthday party for , who is sneakier than whatever out there is super sneaky, leaving our heroine, a less-than-famous but thoroughly sexy private investigator I happen to be very close to, in a variety of predicaments originally intended by the author for said Dark Z. As previously stated, however, that minx is devious, and she slipped through everyone’s fingers, leaving Sesame to deal with all the carefully laid party-goer traps.
Where any of this shit comes from, honestly, I cannot say. As I have said, however, I love just getting an idea in my head and just running with it. This was one of those times.
One of the beautiful things about being a writer is — at least in my experience — having no idea sometimes when the story or the characters are just going to start making their own choices. I cannot list the number of times I’ve stopped at the end of the chapter and said aloud, “I didn’t know that was going to happen.” I’m 100% sure this story included that phrase at least once.
But it was a really fun story to write, and I hope it was a really fun story to listen to, as well. I’ve found that I not only enjoy listening to the stories this way — in small doses- but having my own writing read back to me by voices that align with what I think my characters sound like, which is very beneficial to me as a writer. So, I’ve started using that technique with every fictional WIP I have. I love it.
